CDC reports that seasonal influenza activity in the United States has been increasing sharply over the past several weeks. Because of the potential for exposure to latex, some in our community have questioned whether the risk of flu is as great as the potential for an allergic reaction to latex. It is important that individuals with Spina Bifida consult with their physician about these risks and proceed accordingly. It is not too late to take the flu shot. If there is a serious concern about latex exposure, there are vaccines which are latex free (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/vaxsupply.htm#contentArea).
