Thursday, May 9, 2024, the Spina Bifida Association held the first installment of the New Voices for SB series. New Voices for SB are presentations by industry experts devoted to addressing the medical and social needs of individuals living with Spina Bifida and their families.
This presentation on wheelchairs and mobility was lead by Sunrise Medical‘s Occupational Therapist, Jessica Presperin Pedersen. Jessica addressed three key questions that adults with Spina Bifida and caregivers of individuals with Spina Bifida have about wheelchairs:
– What is on-time mobility and how does it benefit young children who are unable to independently move themselves in space?
– Why is pressure mapping done during a seating evaluation? How can it help in the decision making process when choosing a wheelchair cushion?
– What do you need to know about flying with a wheelchair?
