SBA welcomes Dell Children’s Medical Center Spina Bifida Clinic into Clinic Care Partners program

The Dell Children’s Medical Center Spina Bifida Clinic in Austin, TX, was recently informed that it has met the standards to become a member of the Spina Bifida Association’s (SBA’s) Clinic Care Partners program.

The Clinic Care Partners Program was established by SBA to recognize outstanding Spina Bifida clinics that are meeting the clinical care guidelines that SBA has established, working collaboratively with medical experts, individuals with Spina Bifida, and their care partners. With the addition of the program at Dell Children’s, there are now 42 clinics in the program.

These clinics have dedicated health care professionals who partner with people living with Spina Bifida and their families to provide expert care and help identify research priorities. Clinic Care Partners will collaborate with other providers and SBA to share ideas with a national network of providers that have also been recognized as part of the program.

“The Clinic Care Partners program recognizes the ‘best of the best’ in Spina Bifida care around the country,” said Sara Struwe, President & CEO of the Spina Bifida Association. “The Spina Bifida Clinic at Dell Children’s Medical Center, like others in the program, has shown a commitment to implementing best practices in Spina Bifida care by adopting the care guidelines our community has established. We’re thrilled to add them to our roster.”

Dr. Mohammed Omar Iqbal, Medical Director, and Dr. Faheem Mahomed, Associate Medical Director stated, “We are honored and thrilled to officially be recognized as a Clinical Care Partner by the Spina Bifida Association. This could not have been achieved without all the hard work and dedication of our clinical care team and staff members. A special thanks is reserved for our clinic care coordinator, Sandra Lopez, RN, and other members of our team who put in so much extra time and effort to make this possible. We hope that this designation further reiterates to our patients and families our commitment to them and that we strive to provide the highest standard of care. As a team we look forward to continuing to do our best to uphold these standards and ensure our patients and families receive the care they truly deserve. “

The Dell Children’s Medical Center Spina Bifida Clinic is located 4900 Mueller Boulevard in Austin, TX. The clinic will see people with Spina Bifida up to age 18.

SBA, established in 1973, is the nation’s only voluntary health organization dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes for the 166,000 Americans living with Spina Bifida—one of the most common, permanently disabling birth defects compatible with life. SBA and its network of local chapters support the Spina Bifida community through research, advocacy, educational programming, and direct information and referral support.
